Introduction

Sage Génération Experts (formerly Sage Coala) is Sage’s accounting production and practice management software for French chartered accountancy firms, available installed or in the cloud. It covers the firm’s work from data collection to account review and tax returns.

Activate Sage Génération Experts

Partner keys

You can use Chift’s app, or register your own with Sage.

Use Chift's app

Your Chift point of contact configures the Application ID, Client ID and Client Secret of Chift’s Sage application, in both sandbox and production. End users then activate the Chift application in the marketplace.

Use your own app

Request an Application ID and credentials from Sage’s API support (ec.supportpartenaires.api@sage.com). End users activate your application instead of Chift’s. If it is a private application, your firm also needs Sage’s paid “Connecteur Tiers pour Marketplace privée” option.

There is no redirect URI to configure. Authentication uses the client credentials flow against Sage’s token endpoint, with no OAuth consent screen.

In Connectors, enter the Application ID, Client ID and Client Secret of the route you chose above.

How to get it	Go through a Sage integrator to get a sandbox account, or identify a beta tester among your clients or prospects and test the connection with them. Sage’s own API support (ec.supportpartenaires.api@sage.com) is the contact for partner API access.

Sage Génération Experts setup guide for end users

The full step-by-step, with screenshots.

Before they start, your end users need:

Sage Génération Experts Connect with the Marketplace (Connecteur GE) module
the application activated in Sage Génération Experts’ marketplace for the company they want to connect: Chift’s, or yours if you registered your own (see below)
the entity ID noted while activating it

To connect, they:

name the connection
enter their entity ID
select the company to connect, unless you turned the company choice off, in which case the connection covers every company where the application is activated

Activating the application in Sage Génération Experts

Before connecting, an admin activates the application from the marketplace: once for the accounting firm, then again for each customer company. The application is Chift, or yours on the “use your own app” route.

Activate the application for the firm

Open the marketplace settings and activate the application. Note the entity ID shown once it is active: it is needed when connecting.

Activate the application for each company

Open each customer company, go to Marketplace in the right panel, and activate the application there too.

Rate limits

No rate limit documented by Sage.

Limitations & specificities

Chart of accounts & VAT

Collective accounts, such as 401 or 411, cannot be used directly. Use instead:

On invoice lines, a product account (class 7) or a charge account (class 6).
On journal entries, the client’s or supplier’s third-party account.

Journal entries

Sage Génération Experts books in EUR. For another currency, send the exchange rate: amounts are converted to EUR before booking.

Numbering

Invoice numbers and entry numbers are limited to the maximum length set on each journal in Sage Génération Experts.

Multi-folder

One connection can cover every company of the firm where the application is activated. The end user picks one company at connection, unless you turn that choice off.

Journal entries and invoices — processing

Created invoices, journal entries and third parties are queued for the destination company and can still be rejected before they reach the ledger.

Specific errors for Sage Génération Expert:

ERROR_INVALID_REQUEST	Invalid line amount	Chift will bypass those invoices in the future
ERROR_ACCOUNT_NUMBER_NOT_NOT_GOOD_SCOPE	The account ‘XXXXXX’ cannot be used to create entries.	Please change account number in the invoice line with a product/charge ledger account
ERROR_ACCOUNT_NUMBER_NOT_NOT_GOOD_SCOPE	The account number ‘XX’ cannot be used in an invoice line.	Please change account number in the invoice line with a product/charge ledger account
ERROR_ACCOUNT_NUMBER_NOT_GOOD_SCOPE	Collective general accounts cannot be used to book journal entries in Sage Génération Experts.	Use a thirdparty account instead of a collective general account.
ERROR_COLLECTIVE_ACCOUNT_NOT_CONFIGURED	Collective ledger accounts must be configured in Sage GE to support client/supplier creation.	Configure collective ledger accounts in Sage Génération Experts.
ERROR_CURRENCY_NOT_ALLOWED	Entries can only be created in EUR in Sage Génération Experts. An exchange rate must be provided for other currencies.	Use EUR as the currency or provide a valid exchange rate.
ERROR_INVALID_BODY	Sage GE requires at least 1 entry item with a debit or credit amount different from zero.	Ensure at least one entry item has a non-zero debit or credit amount.
ERROR_ZERO_INVOICE	Sage GE doesn’t accept invoices where all lines have an amount of 0.	Ensure at least one invoice line has a non-zero amount.
ERROR_INVALID_FIELD_FORMAT_INVOICE_NUMBER	Invoice numbers are limited in length as configured in Sage GE settings.	Shorten the invoice number to fit within the limit configured in Sage Génération Experts.
ERROR_INVALID_FIELD_FORMAT_NUMBER	Entry numbers are limited in length as configured in Sage GE settings.	Shorten the entry number to fit within the limit configured in Sage Génération Experts.
