Definition

Outstanding items are open items in the accounting system: invoices or entries that are not fully settled yet. They represent:
  • Open receivables: amounts clients still owe.
  • Open payables: amounts the company still owes to suppliers.

Purpose

  • Track what has been invoiced but not yet settled.
  • Drive payment reconciliation and matching workflows.
  • Give an accurate view of a partner’s current balance.

Structure

Each outstanding item has:
  • An identifier (id) and a number (number): the number of the invoice, journal entry or financial entry
  • A partner (partner_id): the client, supplier or employee
  • A ledger account (account_number)
  • An accounting date (date) and a due date (due_date). due_dates lists every due date
  • A total amount (amount) and an open amount (open_amount): what remains to be settled
  • A currency (currency) and, when it differs from the folder currency, an exchange rate (currency_exchange_rate)
  • A journal (journal_id, journal_type)
  • A reference (reference) and a payment communication (payment_communication)
  • The matching numbers already applied (matching_numbers), such as payments or adjustments
  • A posted flag (posted)
  • An original document (original_document), when the item was first posted in a previous book year
